A Human-First Approach to AI (+ Free Tools for You)
Published about 2 months ago • 3 min read
Hey Reader,
AI is here. Whether we like it or not. From high-stakes commercials to the overwhelming amount of content hitting our screens daily, it seems like everyone is trying to replace human connection with an automated quick fix.
While AI can be an incredible tool for saving time, it also brings up massive concerns about data privacy, environmental impacts, and losing the unique human touch that makes our businesses stand out in the first place.
Walking that delicate line between leveraging tech and staying authentic is tough. That’s why I wanted to establish full transparency on how we, at Tracy Mak Studio, approach AI for websites, branding, and SEO.
Here are 3 core principles from our new Humanity-First AI Manifesto, along with a practical way you can use this tech to sustainably grow your practice (for free!):
1. AI is a Tool, Not a Replacement for You
"Imitation is the highest form of flattery”... unless we're talking about AI regurgitating generic data. Your lived experience is exactly what makes your private practice stand out from the crowd.
If you rely solely on AI to write your blog posts or design your website, you're going to end up looking and sounding exactly like everyone else. Your copy should sound like you, not a poor automated imitation of you!
Pro-Tip: Shift your perspective. Don't ask AI to do the creative heavy lifting. Instead, use it as a collaborative partner for brainstorming angles, outlining ideas, or refining drafts that a human wrote. As my copywriter Jessica always says, "If a human didn’t write it, don’t expect a human to read it."
2. Protect Your Brand-Critical Assets
Private practice branding requires thoughtfulness, emotional awareness, and deep connection. AI generates visuals and text based on what is trending right now, meaning it simply lacks the depth to build long-term trust.
At the studio, we have strict boundaries for what gets the AI treatment and what stays 100% human-made. We never use AI for brand-critical assets like logos, and we never publish final drafts without strict human review. We choose to build unique brands with real symbolism—something a prompt simply can't replicate.
3. Use AI Strategically for Efficiency & SEO
Where does AI truly shine? Streamlining mundane tasks that use little to no creativity.
If you understand search intent and SEO best practices, you can use AI to safely cut down on your weekly workflow. Let it summarize a blog post you already wrote into SEO titles and meta descriptions, or use it to brainstorm variations of a focus keyphrase. The goal isn’t to automate your authenticity; it’s to free up your energy for strategy and client care.

Hey Reader, February 17th marks the Lunar New Year. We are saying goodbye to the Year of the Snake and welcoming the intense energy of the Year of the Fire Horse, a time for rapid change and profound transformation. I don’t usually put much stock in fortunes or astrological forecasts, but after the heaviness and uncertainty of the past few months, I’ve found myself looking for hope in unexpected places. One Lunar New Year tradition I love to do is deep cleaning in the days leading up to New...
Hey Reader, Lately I’ve been noticing how our brand values show up in places we don’t always expect. It hit me again when I accepted a LinkedIn request and immediately got a sales pitch. It reminded me of a time when I was advised to try something similar. I was reaching out to a few ideal clients with helpful website tips. My intentions were good, but it still felt strange to pop into someone’s inbox when we didn’t know each other. I kept thinking, “This just doesn’t feel like me.” After a...
Hey Reader, It’s parent-teacher conference season— aka the annual reality check for how my kids are doing in school. As I sat there listening to their teachers, it hit me: this is exactly how my clients feel when they peek at their online reviews. They’re your practice’s progress reports, written in real time. The glowing ones give you pride and validation for all your hard work. The not-so-great (or fake) ones sting, but they’re also opportunities to learn, adjust, and show integrity. Just...
